In this sense, a study by Lawrence E. Williams and John A. Bargh of Yale University shows that physical distance has effects on the affective state of people and their judgments and, in turn, the emotional distance – influenced by physical distance – has positive effects on people’s health.
Williams and Bargh examined the power of physical distance signals to moderate people’s emotional experiences and affirm that “physical distance and affect are inextricably related, because the principle “distance equals security” is deeply rooted within the biological composition of human beings “and that” probably, the most surprising thing is that the conditioning of the variable “physical distance” through such a discrete method -referring to a flat system of Cartesian coordinates- reduces the reported force on the emotional bonds that people feel to their family and their hometown.”
They conclude the study by revealing “the fundamental importance of distance signals in the physical environment to model the judgments of people and their affective experiences” (Williams and Bargh, 2008, pp. 302-308).
For his part, Edward B. Blanchard, in his article “Studies of the vicarious traumatization of university students for the attacks of September 11: effects of proximity, exposure and connection” states that “higher levels of Autism Spectrum Disorders are demonstrated. (ASD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to greater geographic proximity of the City of New York “(Blanchard, EB, Kuhn, E., et al., 2004, pp.191-205).
We also find other references related to quarantine in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as the Qigong technique practiced in the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Hospital since 1988.
The statistics of this clinic show a success rate of 95% in one study. carried out for 5 years, as it is named in the article by Ernesto Bonilla “Mind-body connection, parapsychological phenomena and spiritual healing” of the Faculty of Medicine of the Clinical Research Institute Dr. Américo Negrette of the University of Zulia in Venezuela (Bonilla , E. 2010, pp.209-238).
Alan Johnson, author, physician and professor of Qigong medical therapy and considered the leading authority of the US both in China and in the West, explains that when patients enter the hospital, they are assigned a support group made up of patients who are in the same disease process and prohibit visitors, calls, letters, television and the press for 6 weeks, so that the previous emotional environment can not negatively affect the patient’s healing process (Johnson, AJ, 2005 ).
